David Thodey AO

David Thodey is a business leader focused on innovation, technology, digital transformation and corporate governance. Mr Thodey is also Chair of Xero Limited, Chancellor the University of Sydney, co-Chair of the Great Barrier Reef Foundation, a non-executive member of the Reserve Bank of Australia Governance Board and the Bank of America Australia Advisory Board.

Mr Thodey has over 40 years’ experience in business leadership including as CEO of Telstra and CEO of IBM Australia & New Zealand. Mr Thodey is active in public policy, having previously led various independent reviews including the myGov User Audit (2023) and the NSW’s Government Federal Financial Relations Review (2020). Mr Thodey was also Chair of CSIRO (2015-2021) and Deputy Chair of the National COVID-19 Coordination Commission Advisory Board (2020).

Mr Thodey holds a Bachelor of Arts (Anthropology and English) from Victoria University of Wellington and is a postgraduate of the General Management Program at Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University. He also holds three Honorary Doctorates from Deakin University, the University of Technology Sydney and the University of Sydney. Mr Thodey is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering and the Australian Institute of Company Directors. In 2017, he was awarded an Order of Australia for his service to business and the promotion of ethical leadership and workplace diversity.
